coffee on a wood table

We were looking for something different to do on a Friday night. There were no movies we were interested in and it was raining. What to do? How about something artistic?

My family and I were looking for a new experience. We looked online and then read about a place where you could get ice cream and an assortment of beverages while painting pottery. The establishment would fire the pottery for you so that you could have a long lasting memento of the occasion. Partly intrigued but wondering if this place would be too hipster, we decided to try it.

The place felt so calm and relaxed. There was pottery all around us. There were potted plants and crafted shelves and decorative pieces throughout the location. The staff was very friendly and we could see where the beverage station was as well as the paint depot and accessory center for outfitting your pottery. Excited and anxious because we did not know how bad these were going to be, we got down to the business at hand of picking out what to paint.

We combed the building looking for pieces that were not too expensive, too basic, and were hopefully just right. Mission Accomplished! We reconvened with our pieces and set out to collect our equipment. The staff guarded the paint like hawks and was in charge of dispensing in order to prevent waste. We picked out our paint after carefully considering what was available.

Now we were ready for the moment of truth. Let’s get down to painting!

We talked and laughed as we started with the exercise. Staff members asked us if we would like anything to drink and if we wanted alcoholic. We were not interested in alcohol and decided to get tea and planned to get ice cream when we were done. Refreshed as we worked, some of us were very careful while others used broad strokes and were kind of messy. This only added to the humor. Time went by lightning fast as we enjoyed each other’s company.

Finished with our work, we turned them. High fives and laughs at some of the eccentric color schemes, we proceeded to get some small ice creams as the staff whisked our work away to be fired.

As we left, we legitimately felt energized but relaxed. It was certainly a great time we had together in each other’s company.
