Kim Kardashian West and the Kardashian clan are canceling their apps in 2019.

Not far behind is Taylor Swift. With their moves to change how fans keep up and interact with them, is this a situation of there being too much of a good thing or do the apps not offer enough to justify fans’ investment?

If exploring the too much of a good thing theory, here are a few things to consider. First, if a person wants to get style tips, there are blogs and vlogs aplenty of fashionistas tracking the changes in style of various celebrities. Kim Kardashian West, her sisters, and Taylor Swift are no exception. There are videos on Youtube explaining how to apply mascara and other cosmetics to mimic the look they have achieved and how to select off the rack garments to add some of the same flair to your wardrobe. You do not need an app or a dedicated website to get this information much less a monthly subscription. Plus, isn’t there an app for everything? It is tough to continue to produce engaging original content that keeps app audiences happy outside of games.

With the economic news, it is possible that some consumers are saving their dough just in case (what with iPhone sales not growing the way they used to). However, this is probably more of a decision based on time and energy. These celebrities have monetized their brand very effectively and do not need to continue to upkeep such an intimate insider enterprise. So the public announcement is probably not a sign of fans rejecting either celebrity or that the app market is cratering. It is just time for the next big thing.
